Tuberculosis

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a major global health challenge, particularly in Africa where the prevalence is disproportionately high due to factors such as limited access to healthcare resources, poverty, and co-infections like HIV/AIDS, which contributes to the high TB burden on the continent.

In 2022, 2.5 million people fell ill with TB in the African region, accounting for a quarter of new TB cases worldwide. An estimated 424,000 people died from the disease in the African region (1.267 million globally) in 2022. Over 33% of TB deaths occur in the African Region.  However there are ongoing efforts to control TB through prevention, diagnosis, and treatment initiatives to address this major global health challenge.
