In the contemporary landscape of disease management, photothermal therapy (PTT) is gaining significant traction as a promising option among the array of modern medical treatments. PTT operates on the principle of utilizing near-infrared (NIR) absorbing transducers, which efficiently convert light into heat. This generated heat serves as a potent tool in different medical applications including treating cancers and cardiovascular diseases, as well as in bone regeneration and tissue engineering, effectively leading to the triggered release of drugs or targeted phototherapy. As a targeted therapeutic approach, PTT holds promise in minimizing damage to healthy tissues surrounding the disease sites, showcasing its potential as a valuable addition to the arsenal of treatment modalities against various diseases including cancers.

Submissions are enthusiastically invited for the Collection, encompassing a diverse range of topics within the realm of PTT. Embracing the cutting-edge advancements in the field, the Collection seeks contributions on plasmon resonant nanosystems, NIR dye-based photothermal transducers, NIR-II agents, PTT for theranostics, nanocluster hybrids, and clinically relevant PTT agents. Beyond the exploration of these fascinating areas, the focus extends to PTT technologies that pave the way for cost-effective strategies to eradicate tumor regions. The ultimate goal is to foster innovations that facilitate the efficient degradation or clearance of cancerous cells from the physiological system. This Collection serves as a platform for researchers to share insights and contribute to the ongoing evolution of PTT as a transformative approach in the landscape of novel therapeutics.

We welcome both fundamental and applied research, and both experimental and theoretical contributions.

The Collection primarily welcomes original research papers, in the form of both full articles and communications, as well as reviews and perspectives.  All submissions will be subject to the same peer review and editorial processes as regular Communications Chemistry articles.
