Advances in heart failure

Heart failure (HF) is estimated to affect over 60 million people globally and its prevalence is expected to rise as a consequence of aging populations. It results from an inability of the heart to pump blood to meet the demands of the rest of the body, due to structural or functional cardiac abnormalities. A growing understanding of the pathophysiology of HF, new pharmacological therapies, developments in diagnostic imaging, cardiac devices, and digital medicine, have enabled improved prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and monitoring of this clinical syndrome. HF with preserved ejection fraction, in particular, has been through a therapeutic revolution. This is illustrated by the recently updated guidelines by the American, Canadian and European Societies of Cardiology.

This cross-journal Collection welcomes submissions of pre-clinical, clinical and population-level original research studies focused on addressing unmet needs in HF. This includes studies focused on the development and clinical translation of precision biomarkers, non-invasive diagnostic imaging, devices to manage or monitor the condition, pharmacological and genetic therapies, dietary or other lifestyle interventions, as well as new approaches to transplantation. We are particularly interested in studies that will improve our understanding of, or address, health disparities in HF incidence and care across different sexes, ethnicities, and populations.

In addition to original research, we are open to receiving other article types, such as Reviews, Perspectives, and Comments that offer significant insights into the topic.
