Several types of waste materials can be effectively reused and recycled for a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional materials, which leads to the conservation of those resources. Nowadays, the utilization of waste materials in civil engineering work is continuously upward trend. Moreover, continuous efforts are carried out to investigate and propose novel concepts and techniques for reusing and recycling waste materials. Typical waste materials utilized in civil engineering work include fly ash, steel slag, recycled concrete aggregate, recycled asphalt pavement, plastic garbage, etc. The specific properties of each waste material are important to consider. Therefore, appropriate testing is carried out to ensure that the proposed waste materials pass the requirements of engineering standards and performance criteria.
This collection invites original and novel research on the engineering aspects of utilizing waste materials for civil engineering projects. We strongly encourage proposals that highlight knowledge of utilizing waste materials as inspiration for design in civil engineering projects, with a focus on achieving an environmentally friendly, sustainable, and effective future. We particularly welcome contributions that incorporate many disciplines and approaches.
