Social behaviour and interaction

Social behaviour characterizes the interactions that occur among individuals of the same species. These can be for example, parental, cooperative, altruistic, or competitive in nature and are thought to have an impact on survival, development, and one’s own well-being. Despite their importance, the mechanisms underlying interactions among social animals, including humans, are unclear. Moreover, social interactions seem to vary widely across individuals, yet the factors that drive these differences are yet to be determined.

The present Collection welcomes original research articles investigating the factors that modulate interindividual differences in social behaviour and interaction, and the neurobiological processes that underlie them.

This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3.

Valerio Capraro, PhD, Associate Professor, University of Milan, Italy

Valerio Capraro is an Associate Professor at the Univesity of Milan, Italy. His current research combines behavioural experiments, mathematical modelling, and numerical simulations to study prosocial behaviour among humans. Dr. Capraro has been an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports since 2019.

Aldo Genovesio, PhD, Sapienza University, Italy

Aldo Genovesio is an Associate Professor at Sapienza University, Italy. His current research interests have expanded into social neuroscience with a particular emphasis on the single-neuron level study of self and other representation in tasks of social interaction and learning within the prefrontal cortex, especially in the Frontal Pole cortex—an area still largely unexplored in neurophysiology but critical to understanding the evolution of the prefrontal cortex. Dr. Genovesio has been an Editorial Board Member for Scientific Reports since 2019.
