Venipuncture in psittacine birds

Abstract

Techniques for jugular, basilic and medial metatarsal venipuncture in psittacine birds are discussed in detail. Although the number of animals used in the US for research annually is documented, birds and laboratory rats and mice are not included. It is presumed that the number of psittacine birds used for scientific purposes is relatively low1. Therefore, only limited information is available about clinical techniques applicable to psittacine birds.
