Ferroelectric materials

Ferroelectric materials are dielectric materials characterised by a spontaneous polarisation: they show an electric dipole moment even in absence of an external electric field. Such polarisation can be switched by applying an electric field. Examples of ferroelectric crystals include KDP type (e.g. KH₂PO₄), TGS type (e.g. Tri-glycine sulfate), HfO₂, and Perovskites (e.g. BaTiO₃, LiNbO₃). In the ferroelectric state, the centre of positive charge of the structure does not coincide with the centre of negative charge. Such characteristics of ferroelectric materials have attracted a lot of interest among the scientific community for their exploitation in a variety of applications including energy harvesting, storage, sensing, and catalysis.

This Collection invites original research articles on ferroelectric materials, spanning from their growth and characterisation to their use in exciting applications in engineering, biomedical, physical, and chemical sciences.
