Advances in understanding disease combined with increased accessibility of modern technology have created new opportunities for the use of biomaterials in unprecedented ways. Materials can now be rapidly created and selected to target specific cells, change shape in response to external stimulus, deliver therapeutics and instruct tissue regeneration. The development of personalised medicine requires precise formulation strategies to deliver the therapeutic payloads to the pathological tissues, producing enhanced therapeutic outcome and reduced side effects. For this collection, we invite submissions on targeted drug delivery vehicles, biomaterials, nanoparticles and the exciting field of nanotheranostics. In addition to original research Articles, we will also consider Reviews, Perspectives and Comments covering these topics. All submissions will be subject to the same review process as regular Communications Biology Articles.
This Collection supports and amplifies research related to SDG 3.
