Pancreatic & Biliary Disease

The pancreas and biliary tract are important components of the digestive system, functioning to produce enzymatic secretions that aid in the breakdown of food molecules, particularly fats, proteins, and carbohydrates, facilitating digestion and nutrient absorption in the small intestine.

Incidence of a number of common diseases of the pancreaticobiliary system, including early-onset pancreatic cancer, acute pancreatitis, gallstones, and cholecystitis appears to be increasing. These conditions can be difficult to diagnose, both due to the lack of symptoms specific to these conditions and when considering the anatomical positioning of the pancreas and gallbladder behind other organs.

This Collection aims to bring together primary research papers that explore the mechanisms underlying pancreatic and biliary diseases or describe potential diagnostic techniques and interventions to improve disease outcomes.
