Pharmaceutical pollution

Submission status
Open
Submission deadline

Although pharmaceuticals can improve health and quality of life, their mass production and use have led to pharmaceutical pollutants in the soil and water. These environmentally persistent pollutants can have devastating effects on the environment and on human health, and it is particularly concerning in areas where these chemicals are produced. Additionally, the increased use of pharmaceuticals in agricultural practices has accelerated this problem. Understanding the extent of pharmaceutical pollution and developing methods for environmental remediation are essential.

In light of the role this research plays in UN Sustainable Development Goal 6, this Collection welcomes original research into all aspects of pharmaceutical pollution from monitoring levels and effects of pollutants to strategies for mitigation and remediation.
