Ignacio Fernández de Mata holds a Ph.D. in History and Social Anthropology, and is a Professor of Social Anthropology in the Department of History, Geography and Communication. He teaches in the Degree in History and Heritage, the Degree in Audiovisual Communication and the Master in Heritage and Communication. He is an expert in historical memory and his lines of research are framed in the field of cultural studies, specifically with the shaping of modern identities, cultural conflicts and heritage management. Director of the Recognized Research Group Society and Conflict. Cultural Studies of Violence(s) (SYCON) at the University of Burgos, has been Marie Curie Researcher (EU), Professor-Researcher at the Autonomous University of Bucaramanga, at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, at the University of Kent-Canterbury and at the University of Puerto Rico-Mayagüez. He has also been part of the network of researchers that formed the European Doctorate Enhancement in Peace and Conflict (EDEN).
