Safety of penile prosthesis surgery in solid organ transplant patients

Surgeons are understandably concerned about performing elective surgeries, such as penile prosthesis (PP) placement, on solid organ transplant (SOT) patients because the patients are typically taking one or several immunosuppressive drugs [1]. Immunosuppression may increase the risk of infection or perioperative complications during PP placement. However, a recent study on PP surgeries reported no difference in outcomes between SOT patients and non-SOT controls [2]. This communication aims to evaluate safety, complication rates, and outcomes for men with a SOT who received subsequent PP surgery.
