Globalization is no longer a simple buzz word. As we enter the third millennium, we are increasingly becoming aware that our lives are connected to the rest of the world, more so now than ever before. Our lives today are affected by current events occurring in a world far removed from our everyday life: from Princess Diana's wedding to her tragic death, to the events of war in Iraq. These events, seemingly isolated and affecting only a small immediate population in reality have a major impact on lives far removed from the site of their occurrence.

What indeed is meant by Globalization? According to Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen, Globalization is defined by being open to ideas and by not being parochial. On the other hand, for the common person on the street, Globalization could mean the export of labor to sweat shops in the developed world and the spread of McDonald's and Coca Cola in the developing world.
