UPF1 is an RNA helicase playing pivotal roles in multiple mRNA degradation pathways. Here authors show that in the absence of UPF1, early to late LPre-B cell transition is halted, which defect can be overcome by exogenous expression of a rearranged heavy chain gene, but additional defects in the differentiation program prevent development to the immature B cell stage.
