Annual Review Issue 2025 – Call for Proposals

Deadline for proposals: April 15, 2024!

The Editors-in-Chief of Pediatric Research announce the topic of the 2025 Annual Review Issue, entitled “Genomics in Child Health”.

Pediatric Research is preparing its Annual Review Issue with the topic, "Genomics in Child Health”. The past several decades have seen the rapid development of medical genomic science including clinical exome sequencing (ES) for molecular diagnosis, by genomics approaches for understanding the genetic basis of complex traits and diseases, and by progress in understanding genotype–phenotype relationships. These advancements have led to gene disorders undergoing gene therapies where new DNA is added to certain cells, or DNA is repaired. It has also led to therapy outside of gene replacement, such as the CFTR modulars for cystic fibrosis (Trikafta), hydroxyurea for sickle cell disease or hereditary amyloidosis (tafamidis). Epigenetic manipulation has also been found useful, such as reactivating the gene for fetal hemoglobin in patients with sickle cell disease with histone acetylase inhibitors. This review issue will pull together recent information on all facets of genomics in pediatrics from bench to bedside and beyond!

This is an excellent opportunity for junior faculty to pair up with senior mentors to develop these reviews! Please note that standard publication page fees are waived for manuscripts included in the Annual Review Issue!

Letters of intent should include a proposed title and be sent to info@pedres.org by the deadline. Please include “ARI 2025 Proposal” in the subject line. If proposal is accepted, initial manuscript drafts will be due May 15, 2024.

COVID-19 Call For Papers

COVID-19 remains a rapidly evolving and thus fluid disease. In the absence of timely, valid, and pertinent information, many clinicians worldwide are inadequately informed and insufficiently prepared to help manage this new disease.

The Editors-in-Chief of Pediatric Research are soliciting papers addressing the mechanisms of disease in COVID-19. In particular, we are seeking data driven submissions of original research including basic translational research, trials and outcomes studies, narrative reviews, and eventually, systematic reviews and meta-analyses related to COVID-19.

These COVID-19 related papers will be immediately made available as free access content and widely disseminated via our Journal website and PubMed. Please note: Papers accepted after March 1 will not have COVID-19 fees waived.

Submissions can be made through ScholarOne at https://mc04.manuscriptcentral.com/prjournal and please note that submission does not guarantee peer review or eventual acceptance. Please indicate in your cover letter that you are submitting in response to the call for COVID-19 papers.

  1. Academic rank at the Associate Professor Level or higher
  2. Has published more than 10 peer reviewed articles
  3. Has reviewed for Pediatric Research
    1. Alternately: has reviewed more than 10 articles (We encourage submission of your Publons Report)
  4. Membership in APS, ESPR, or SPR preferred
    1. No more than 7 years from first faculty appointment; and
    2. Have done majority of the work on the original research article; and
    3. Be first or senior author of the original research article.
  • We are automatically sending the World Health Organization (WHO) all published research, on a rolling basis, that is directly relevant to the outbreak.
  • We urge all authors of relevant research to share preprints of their submitted papers on a recognized preprint server and to release all data, code and protocols associated with their research to a recognized community repository.  Such deposition should please not affect the consideration or publication process of submitted manuscripts.
    • If you have not already deposited a preprint and are seeking a suggestion for a preprint server, our affiliates at Research Square offer the Research Square preprint platform.
  • If you need help depositing and curating your research data (including raw and processed data, text, video, audio and images) you should consider:
  • For protocols, we encourage authors to share their step-by-step experimental protocols on a protocol sharing platform of their choice.
  • All Springer Nature content related to COVID-19 is automatically made free on our webpages. Here’s a nested-by-topic repository of articles published here on this topic (landing page represents the tags we use to identify and share all our published articles, automatically, on this topic): https://springernature.github.io/covid19-publications/
  • We’ve created a central resource for content, initiatives, and announcements (scroll down on the page for content): https://www.springernature.com/gp/researchers/campaigns/coronavirus

COVID-19 RESOURCES

The situation with the COVID-19 pandemic is rapidly changing with an ever expanding medical literature. In this quickly changing environment we encourage any input or suggestions that can be supported by the journal to provide resources for the healthcare community and families.

We invite you to share your experience with COVID-19 whether in your personal or professional life. Our goal is to share this information rapidly with our readership and will expedite getting this information out. We are looking for both shorter anecdotes to share on our website and longer “correspondence” pieces to be published in the journal. All page charges will be waived and we will be setting these articles as freely accessible on our website.
