Princeton University is the fourth-oldest college in the US and a scientific powerhouse, ranking highly in Nature Index's 2019 Annual Tables – Top 100 Global Institutions and Top 100 Academic Institutions (Normalized) for 2018.

Ranked 30th among the world's largest contributors to papers published in the 82 leading journals tracked by the Nature Index, Princeton is up there with the best. It's also ranked 14th among United States universities in the Nature Index.

It also placed remarkably well in Nature Index's normalized ranking of academic institutions, coming in at 10th place in 2018. The normalized ranking shows the share of an institution’s research output in the natural sciences that has been judged high quality.

This makes Princeton University the only institution in the global top 30 to rank in the academic normalized top 10. Princeton also has by far the highest FC of all the institutions in the normalized top 10, meaning it's not only a prolific publisher, but its proportion of high-quality research is considerable.
