    In this special topic, we proposed to represent the metamaterials by digital coding elements to reach information metamaterials. The digital coding representation of metamaterial builds up a bridge between the electromagnetic physical world and digital world, and hence the digital concepts can be used to control the metasurface physics.

    This special issue aims to explore the fundamental properties of OAM-carrying twisted light and expanded structured light. It includes 1 invited review article and 2 contributed papers, focusing on the recent advances and future challenges in twisted light with OAM, structured light and their wide applications in various fields.

    In recent years, photonics has seen polymers creatively employed in very diverse optical applications. The LSA papers in this focus provide three diverse examples: polymers for the realization of photonic-molecule lasers; deformable lenses with tunable aberrations; and nanofibers which allow new opportunities for manipulation of light at the nanoscale.

    Recent developments in nanostructures, metamaterials, and silicon technologies have expanded the range of possible functionalities for highly integrated optical chips. We focus here on a selection of these, showing how fundamental work in areas such as transformation optics and materials technologies could lead to new functionality for photonic integrated circuits.
