Geological hazards (GHs), such as seismic hazards, landslides and debris flows, and volcanic hazards, not only pose a great threat to human life and property, but also have a profound adverse impact on economic development and social welfare, which has been drawing particular attention to scientists and engineers around the world. In recent years, with the soaring development of advanced technologies, e.g., artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and cloud computing, big data analysis becomes a hotspot for exploring GHs. It broadens the horizon of conventional methods as well as provides new insights and tools for tackling this global issue. Through scrutinizing massive geological data and information, AI/ML enables to facilitate a better understanding of the laws of GH occurrence, advancement of GH early warning system, and development of GH prevention and control measures in a more effective and efficient fashion.

This Collection aims to address the applications of advanced technologies in the field of GH research, including hazard identification, hazard assessment, risk evaluation, and prediction and early warning.

This Collection welcomes Original Research articles as well as Reviews, Perspectives, and Comments, which underlines the following topics, but not limited to:

  • Rapid identification of GHs
  • Development laws and characteristics of GHs
  • Hazard assessment and risk evaluation
  • Analysis and simulation of historical data of GHs
  • Prediction and early warning of GHs
  • Post-disaster recovery and reconstruction
