Endovascular treatment benefits women as much as men

Outcomes of endovascular treatment (EVT) for ischaemic stroke are at least as good for women as for men, according to two new studies published in Stroke. The findings suggest that short-term outcomes are similar and that the treatment extends women’s healthy life more than men’s.

Previous work has suggested that outcomes of EVT after ischaemic stroke are poorer in women than in men, although conflicting results mean the issue remains unclear. The two new studies took different approaches to investigate the problem further.
