Zhejiang University (ZJU) (http://www.zju.edu.cn/english/) is located in Hangzhou, capital of Zhejiang Province. After a century of development, ZJU is among the top higher education institutions in China.

The College of Biomedical Engineering and Instrument Science (CBEIS) was founded in 1977 by Lv Weixue, an early leader in China’s biomedical engineering field. CBEIS was among the first to confer master’s degrees (1978), doctoral degrees (1981) and postdoctoral training programmes (1985), and hosts one of ZJU’s 14 national key first-level disciplines. President Xi Jinping visited the college and praised the cutting-edge research conducted there. He encouraged multidisciplinary research efforts to translate lab results into clinical applications.

The college is equipped with outstanding research and educational resources, and hosts an array of national, ministerial and provincial key laboratories, including the Biomedical Transducer National Special Lab, National Engineering Laboratory for Medical Big Data Application Technology and Key Laboratory for Biomedical Engineering of Ministry of Education. CBEIS is also home to multidisciplinary research institutes, such as Qiushi Academy for Advanced Studies, the ZJU Embedded System Research Center, and the ZJU Brain Imaging Science and Technology Center. It has established extensive collaboration and exchange projects with world-renowned universities and research institutions, and holds high-level international academic conferences annually. It has established talent exchange programmes and joint research fellowships with leading universities in the US, the UK, Japan, Russia, the Netherlands, Australia and Singapore.
