The Complete Pyramids
- Mark Lehner
“The greatest pyramid-builder in Egyptian history” was King Sneferu, who came to the throne in around 2575 bc. His four pyramids included the Bent pyramid at Dahshur (above) and used a total mass of stone that exceeds even that of the Great Pyramid at Giza, built by his son Khufu. From The Complete Pyramids by Mark Lehner (Thames and Hudson, £24.95, $39.95). The author examines practical aspects of the monuments' construction — the quarries, ramps and tools used — as well as their associated cosmology and iconography.
