Abstract
A sequence of changing conditions for flooding and alluviation in the upper Thames valley during the Holocene has been identified and provisionally dated by the investigation of archaeological sites interstratified with alluvium. Archaeological survey suggests that the changes can be related to clearance and agricultural activity in the catchment area.
