Abstract
THE discovery of sunspots, in particular the 11-yr cycle, has led to many attempts to detect correlations between the sunspot number and weather changes in the Earth's troposphere1. The past decade has seen a renewed interest based on modern data and the concepts of solar-terrestrial physics2.
