Rock volatility and aerosol composition

Abstract

ON the basis of recent measurements, I propose here that part of the Earth's aerosol burden comes from the volatilisation (sublimation) of the components of surface rocks, in addition to the well known man-made contribution. Calculations on a simple kinetic model indicates that vapour pressures of 10−11 atm could support the observed atmospheric concentration of copper.
