Abstract
STRIKING histological, histochemical and physiological differences between intrafusal and extrafusal muscle have been observed in a large number of species. Enzyme profiles, for instance, of intrafusal muscle not only fail to reflect the extrafusal pattern but show considerable interspecies variation1,2.
