Abstract
THE measurement of alcohol concentration in the breath is a more convenient and desirable method of enforcing the drinking and driving laws than the collection and analysis of blood samples. This method is valid because the alcohol concentration in alveolar air is proportional to the alcohol concentration in the blood; it is essential to ensure that the breath sample contains only alveolar air1,2.
