Abstract
WRITERS1,2 have warned of errors in the labelling of commercially purchased radioactive biochemicals with regard to content and purity. The next edition of the publication3 by the Committee on Specifications and Criteria for Biochemical Compounds, National Academy of Sciences—National Research Council, will contain a statement on definitions and problems involved in specifying the quality of radioactively labelled products. If a rigid testing procedure were followed by the user, errors in packaging would not cause difficulty, but it is likely that measurement of total activity, specific activity, nature of isotope and radiochemical purity, as recommended by Gordon2, are an exception rather than the rule.
