Abstract
SZALAY, in a critical note1 on my description of the Chesowanja australopithecine2, presents a reconstruction of the cranium. He postulates not only the lateral pressure that I assumed had acted on the specimen but also that the palate was pushed inferiorly and anteriorly, opening out a wedge in the maxillary region. Using this postulate he then makes a reconstruction by graphically removing this wedge and bringing the cut faces together.
