Abstract

SEVERAL reports suggest a relationship between smoking and coronary heart disease1–4, and in view of the role played by platelets in thrombosis5–8 it seemed important to examine the effect of cigarette smoking on platelet function. Although there have been a few studies of the platelets of cigarette smokers, most have not been compared with non-smoking data9–15.
