Abstract
IT has been known for many years1 that serum copper is increased during the later stages of pregnancy. Exogenous oestrogens produce an increase in both serum copper and the copper-binding globulin ceruloplasmin2 and it is therefore not surprising that all of the popular oral contraceptives containing potent synthetic oestrogens have been reported to increase serum copper and ceruloplasmin3–7.
