Bacterial Sporulation as a Modified Procaryotic Cell Division

Abstract

This article reviews the idea that the bacterial spore is a small cell, formed by an asymmetric cell division and enveloped by the larger sister cell. Both processes seem to be morphological expressions of unbalanced growth resulting from shift down growth conditions.
