Abstract
COMPARISONS of the spectra of protein bands identified after electrophoresis of extracts of diploid, tetraploid and hexaploid species of Triticum have confirmed the current concept of the evolution of the hexaploid wheat1. Similar studies were undertaken in the Avenae in an attempt to trace the diploid progenitors of the cultivated hexaploid species Avena sativa.
