Abstract
OPTICAL activity1 can be present, according to theory, in eleven enantiomorphous classes (1, 2, 222, 4, 422, 3, 32, 6, 622, 432 and 23) and four non-enantiomorphous classes (m, mm2, &4marc; and &4marc;2m). The first observation of the effect in non-enantiomorphous crystals was made recently2 in AgGraS2 of class &4marc;2m. An accidental optical isotropy at 4974 Å allowed the effect to be observed perpendicular to the c axis.
