Lipids and Phospholipids in Blood Coagulation

Abstract

THERE is conflicting evidence on the nature of the phospholipid which contributes to the acceleration of clotting in recalcified plasma1–4. Microsomes are a principal source of chorion intracellular thromboplastin5 and we have found6 that a chloroform extract of chorion microsomes behaves in a procoagulant fashion similar to the platelet substitute of Bell and Alton7. We find similar activity in chloroform extract of freeze-dried whole chorion homogenate.
