Viral Aetiology of Human Tumours

Abstract

RECENT electron microscopic examinations of human neoplastic cells have revealed a variety of virus-like particles (for example, refs. 1–9) which frequently resemble herpesvirus10–15. Because the viral aetiology of a number of animal tumours has been established, the discovery of virus-like structures in human cancer cells has been taken as evidence in support of the concept that viruses cause human tumours.
