Prostaglandins released by the Spleen

Abstract

Experiments with dogs have shown that both prostaglandin E2 and F are released when the spleen is contracted by nerve stimulation or by adrenaline. The prostaglandins are not released from the nerves, but derive from smooth muscle cells or other cells with similar adrenergic innervation. The prostaglandin release is not the cause of splenic contraction.
