Extracellular Recording from Single Neurones in the Olfactory Centre of the Cockroach

Abstract

VERY few reports have been published concerning the olfactory responses from single units in the central nervous system of invertebrates. This communication is concerned with the successful extracellular recording of single unit responses evoked by olfactory stimulation. It is emphasized that the response to odours can be classified into three categories: namely, “on” response; “on–off” response; and “off” response.
