Autoradiographic Study of the Effects of Cortisol on DNA Synthesis in Lymphatic Tissue

Abstract

THE inter-relationships between adrenal corticosteroids and lymphatic tissue have often been described. The involution of lymphatic tissue produced by adrenal corticosteroids can be related to different aspects of the growth of lymphatic tissue and to the metabolism of lymphocytes. The effects on growth of lymphatic tissue are a combination of lymphocytokaryorrhexis and the inhibition of mitosis1. Metabolic effects include inhibition of DNA synthesis2,3, RNA synthesis3,4, protein synthesis3,5–7 and glucose utilization7–9, as well as producing changes in certain enzymes10.
