Labelled Fluoroborate in the Stomach of Rats

Abstract

FLUOROBORATE labelled with fluorine-18 (KB18F4) has been used for detection of brain tumours by scanning1,2. Fluorine-18 has the advantage of a very short physical half life (1.87 h), which means that more radioactivity can be given for the same radiation dose to the body, so that count rate can be increased and statistical significance improved. Furthermore, it emits positrons so that coincidence counting and the positron camera3 can be used.
