Serological Specificities of Phenylalanine Deaminases of the Proteus—Providence Group

Abstract

THE possession of a phenylalanine deaminase is one of the main arguments for the taxonomic association of proteus and providence organisms1. These groups have many differences and their classification is uncertain. Vulgaris and mirabilis organisms3 have strikingly high phenylalanine deaminase activity compared with those of morganii., rettgeri and providence strains. It was decided to investigate the serology of the deaminases of these organisms.
