Inhibition of Tumour Formation with Adenovirus 12 Tumour Cells in Hamsters immunized with Various Adenoviruses

Abstract

TUMOUR production by adenovirus type 12 in newborn hamsters inoculated subcutaneously has been confirmed in several laboratories1,2. Eddy and co-workers3 found inhibition of this tumour production in hamsters repeatedly inoculated with live adeno virus type 12 during the incubation period of tumour formation. More recently, Peries et al.4 demonstrated inhibition of the formation of adenovirus 12 induced tumours in hamsters inoculated subcutaneously with a live heterotypic virus, adeno virus type 5. No inhibition occurred, however, when killed adeno virus type 5 was used. The mechanism of tumour inhibition in both sets of experiments was not established.
