Substrate Hydrophobic Groups and the Maximal Rate of Enzyme Reactions

Abstract

The maximum rate (Vm) of certain enzyme reactions is increased as much as two to three times by a single additional carbon atom in a “chemically inert” hydrophobic region of the substrate molecule
