Abstract
LIPID droplets which occur in cells of insect (Rhodnius) and mammalian (mouse) fat tissue have recently been shown to contain structurally defined, enzymatically active sites with NAD-diaphorase and to exhibit Krebs dehydrogenase activity1. These structures, called “catalysomes” because of their function, were recognized as a new type of cytoplasmic organelle and considered to be responsible, at least in part, for the synthesis of “metabolic lipids”2 in living cells of the fat tissue1.
