Abstract
THE chemical methods available for preparing cytidine diphosphate ethanolamine (CDP-ethanolamine) either give a poor yield of the product1 or require rather elaborate procedures2,3. In the method described here, use has been made of the enzyme CTP : ethanolamine-phosphate cytidylyltransferase (EC. 2.7.7.14) from rat liver, to prepare cytidine-5′-diphosphate-(2-14C)-ethanolamine and cytidine-5′-(β-32P)-diphosphate ethanolamine in high yield. This enzyme, which was originally described by Kennedy and Weiss4, is present exclusively in the particle-free supernatant from a tissue homogenate5,6.
