Use of “Sephadex” Gel for the Estimation of Molecular Weight of Humic Substances in Natural Water

Abstract

THOUGH little is actually known about the shape of humus molecules, and only a few experiments have been described1,2 on the fractionation of humus on ‘Sephadex’ gel (Pharmacia, Uppsala, Sweden), there is strong evidence for the existence of a relationship between the elution rate through the ‘Sephadex’ column and the molecular weight3,4.
