Gland-like Abdominal Structures of Possible Epigamic Function in the Diptera

Abstract

RECENTLY one of us1 erected a new genus, Austrodrapetis, to receive an undescribed empidid fly from the Cook Islands. Striking features of this species were the presence of abdominal structures of unknown function in the male coupled with certain secondary sexual characters in the coxae of both sexes and the tibiae of the male.
