Metabolic Investigations on Pristinamycin

Abstract

PRISTINAMYCIN is a new antibiotic obtained from Streptomyces pristinae spiralis, a Streptomyces isolated from a soil sample taken at San Carlos (Cordoba) in Argentina1. It is made up of several components and belongs to the family of synergistic antibiotics which includes streptogramin, staphylomycin and ostreogrycin. Chromatographic analysis has shown that pristinamycin is a mixture of two groups of components, the proportions of which vary within certain fixed limits:
