Bronchoconstrictor Action of Bradykinin, Kallidin and Eledoisin

Abstract

THE interesting observation of Gjuriš and Westermann that bradykinin differs from 5-hydroxytryptamine in its action on the tracheobronchial muscle of the guinea-pig accords with previous findings. For example, Jänkälä and Virtama1 concluded from radiography that 5-hydroxytryptamine “causes vigorous constriction of all the constrictable bronchial tree of the guinea-pig”, whereas “bradykinin apparently only affects the respiratory bronchioles”. I am glad that Gjuriš and Westermann support the suggestion we made some tune ago2, that bradykinin may also affect the smooth muscles of the pleural surface of the lung.
