Catalytic Activity of Haemin on the Decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide

Abstract

IT is known that the velocity of decomposition of H2O2 increases in the ratio 1 : 103 : 1010 if one uses Fe3+ ion, haemin or catalase as a catalyst1. There have been several attempts to construct a general mechanism for these reactions2–4. The theory of Jones and Wynne-Jones seems to offer satisfactory explanation for many experimental facts4. However, there is still need for more experimental evidence to test this theory.
