Abstract
Mowat and Chapman1 reported the susceptibility of BHK 21 clone 13 cells to foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) virus, and Mowat, Brooksby and Pay2 the use of monolayer cultures of these cells for the preparation of a live attenuated FMD vaccine. The growth of the cells in deep suspension culture was described by Capstick, Telling, Chapman and Stewart3. This report records the infection of cells in suspension by FMD virus and the possible use of the system for production of FMD virus vaccines.
